Essex is one of the world’s special places. As residents we are all stewards of its unique natural and architectural landscape. All of us now have the opportunity to make positive decisions about how we will live in a way that will have a beneficial sustainable effect on our community.
The Sustainable Essex Committee is comprised of committed individuals who are residents of Essex and nearby towns. We are concerned about the adverse impacts climate change on all facets of life in the Lower Connecticut River Valley. The Sustainable Essex Committee will focus on strategies to balance environmental protection, economic development, and social objectives to meet the needs of today without compromising the quality of life for future generations.
The mission of Sustainable Essex is to initiate, support and promote actions that will support Essex as it strives to be a thriving, resilient, collaborative and forward-looking community. We strive to focus on actions that address the harmful effects of climate change, supports the ongoing development of an equitable community that provides opportunities for all residents, helps build a sustainable local economy, and promotes the health and well-being of current and future residents, while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment.
