THAT’S A WRAP! SOLARIZE ESSEX & FRIENDS CAMPAIGNS RESULTS IN 346 kW OF NEW CLEAN ENERGY SYSTEMS.

Sustainable Essex is proud to announce the successful completion of the 2025 Solarize Essex & Friends campaign, which has delivered 21 new solar and battery projects across three towns, representing a combined 346 kilowatts (kW) of renewable energy capacity.
From April through August 2025, homeowners in the tri-towns of Essex, Chester, and Deep River embraced the opportunity to invest in clean energy through this limited-time, community-driven program. The campaign resulted in 257 kW of rooftop solar power paired with 89 kW of battery storage, strengthening both sustainability and resiliency for local households.
In total, these systems will generate hundreds of thousands of kilowatt-hours of clean power each year, offsetting thousands of pounds of carbon emissions. With Connecticut energy rates among the highest in the nation, participating families are expected to save millions of dollars collectively over the lifetime of their systems.
We hope to continue building momentum for clean energy in the Connecticut River Valley. Residents who were not able to participate in this year’s campaign are encouraged to explore ongoing incentives and financing programs that make solar and storage more accessible than ever. Purchasing a solar energy system for your home is like owning your own little power plant, as opposed to renting indefinitely from the utility company. An initial investment is made, and in Connecticut, with energy prices being as high as they are, that investment is typically recouped after 5-7 years. Since solar systems are designed to last 25-40 years, lifetime savings are typically measured in tens of thousands of dollars.

Solarize Essex & Friends was designed to help lower the up-front costs of going solar. The campaign ran from April 22 to July 31, and residents of Essex, Chester and Deep River were able to access a significant group discount on solar through trusted industry partner Earthlight Technologies.
